Recording & Upload
My recording won't start
Your browser needs permission to use your mic. Look for a small mic icon in the address bar - if it's crossed out, click it and choose "Allow".
On your phone, open your device settings, find RecordX, and turn on microphone access. Then refresh the page and try again.
Can I record long sessions on mobile?
When you record from your phone's browser, we limit sessions to 20 minutes - longer recordings get cut off when your phone locks the screen or switches apps.
For longer meetings on the go, install our RecordX Android app - it keeps recording reliably, even when the screen is off. An iPhone app is on the roadmap.
What file formats can I upload?
You can upload most audio and video files - MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC, AAC, OGG, WebM, and MP4 all work.
Big files are fine too - we'll upload them in pieces so a flaky connection doesn't restart the whole upload. Very long recordings (2+ hours) just take a little longer to transcribe.
How long does processing take?
Most of your recordings will be ready in a few minutes. Once your file finishes uploading, feel free to close the browser or app - we'll email you the moment your transcript is ready.
If your transcript isn't ready after an hour, get in touch and we'll take a look.
Credits & Billing
How do credits work?
Think of credits as minutes. Every minute of your recording uses one credit.
You get 60 free minutes every month - no card needed. Need more? Top up any time on our pricing page.
I ran out of credits
Once you're out of minutes, new recordings will pause until you top up. Your existing transcripts stay safe and accessible.
Head to the pricing page to grab more minutes or switch to a monthly plan that fits your usage.
Do unused credits roll over?
Your free monthly minutes: Refilled every month - use them or lose them, they don't stack up.
Minutes you bought: Yours to keep - they never expire, even if you skip a month.
Transcription & Results
The transcript has errors
Transcript quality depends mostly on what we can hear - clear voices in a quiet room give the best results.
A few things that help:
- Record somewhere quiet, away from fans and traffic noise
- Use a decent mic or headset rather than your laptop speakers
- Ask people to speak up and avoid talking over each other
- Pick the right language before you start - it makes a real difference
How do I share my transcript?
Open the transcript you want to share and tap the Share button. You can:
- Get a link to send anywhere
- Email it directly to someone
- Download it as a PDF, Word doc, or plain text file
Before you share, you can choose whether to include or hide sensitive details like names and numbers.
Can I download my recordings?
You can download your transcript any time as a PDF, Word document, or plain text file.
We don't keep your audio - it's automatically deleted within 24 hours of upload to protect your privacy. If you want to hold on to the audio, save a copy on your device before you upload it.
Account & Privacy
Is my data secure?
Yes. Everything you upload is encrypted on the way to us and while it's stored. Your audio file is automatically deleted within 24 hours - we only keep the transcript you can read.

How do I delete my data?
You can clear out your recordings any time without losing your account.
To delete a recording:
- Open your History
- Tap the trash icon (🗑️) next to the recording
- Confirm and it's gone
Once you delete a recording, the following are removed right away:
- Your transcript and any summaries
- Any links you'd shared
- Speaker labels, action items, and other notes
Heads up: your original audio is already removed within 24 hours of upload, so once it's gone we can't bring it back.
Want to delete everything at once, or having trouble? Email us at admin@recordx.io with the subject "Data Deletion Request" and we'll take care of it.
How do I delete my account?
Open Settings → Account → Danger Zone and click Delete Account. We'll ask you to type "DELETE" so we know it's really what you want.
Locked out? Email us at admin@recordx.io with the subject "Account Deletion Request" and we'll handle it for you.
Everything tied to your account goes with it:
- Your login and account info
- All your recordings and transcripts
- Your usage history and settings
