Fathom's free plan is famously generous on recording - unlimited transcripts across Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams. The catch is that advanced AI summaries, action items, and CRM sync are capped at 5 meetings per month. After that, you fall back to a basic summary until the next cycle.
People look for Fathom alternatives when the 5-summary monthly cap starts biting, when they need in-person meeting coverage, when they want phone-call recording alongside meetings, or when they need summaries in a language Fathom doesn't cover well.
RecordX - top pick
RecordX is a bot-free meeting recorder and AI notetaker built around three things most Fathom shoppers actually need: capture that doesn't announce itself, coverage beyond video meetings, and languages beyond English.
- RecordX runs on top-tier ASR models and a modern audio pipeline. Transcription quality holds up across every supported language, including Hebrew.
- Bot-free video-meeting capture through a Chrome extension for Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex, and Slack.
- Native Android app for in-person meetings, interviews, and site visits.
- Built-in softphone with your own DID number, so phone calls sit next to video meetings in one searchable library.
- Full Hebrew transcription and RTL interface, plus 19 other languages summarized natively.
- Free tier with monthly minutes; paid tiers add more minutes and team features.
- Transcripts encrypted at rest, source audio deleted after processing, user-controlled deletion.

- tl;dv - unlimited free recordings across 30+ languages, 10 AI uses per month, 3-month auto-delete.
- Gong - enterprise revenue AI with $5K+ platform fee, only makes sense at scale.
- Avoma - meeting AI with Conversation and Revenue Intelligence as $29/seat add-ons.
- Rev - per-minute transcription ($0.25 AI, $1.99 human), no meeting bot or AI summaries.
How we compared
Criteria used across the alternatives above:
- Capture model - does it join calls as a bot, or record locally in the background?
- Coverage - video meetings only, or phone calls and in-person meetings too?
- Free plan honesty - total minutes, per-conversation caps, AI-summary caps, retention.
- Pricing predictability - flat plans or per-seat with add-ons and platform fees.
- Language coverage - transcription is one thing; summaries in that language are another.
- Privacy defaults - audio retention, deletion controls, encryption in transit and at rest.
