YouTube to transcript

How it works today

  1. Grab the audio or video file for the YouTube clip. For content you own, use YouTube Studio to download it. For third-party content, only use material you have permission to transcribe.
  2. Sign up at recordx.io/register.
  3. Open the RecordX web app and drop the file into the upload zone. MP3, M4A, WAV, MP4, and other common formats work.
  4. Read the transcript, edit speaker names, and copy or export the text.

Why not use YouTube's captions

YouTube's auto-captions are line-broken subtitles built for on-screen reading. They usually skip punctuation, drop speaker names, and don't produce a readable document. RecordX gives you a full-sentence transcript with speaker turns, timestamps, and a summary you can paste into notes.

What you get

Real transcript

Full sentences, punctuation, and speaker labels. Not subtitles.

AI summary

A short summary of the video, plus key points and follow-ups.

Search and export

Search the transcript for any phrase, or export to text and PDF.

Rights and consent

Only transcribe content you have the right to use - your own videos, licensed material, or clips covered by fair use in your jurisdiction. RecordX is a tool; you own the responsibility for what you upload.

How do I get the audio from a YouTube video?

Can RecordX pull the video directly from a URL?

Not today. Upload the audio or video file to the web app; same output either way.

Is YouTube's built-in caption the same as a real transcript?

No. YouTube captions are subtitles. RecordX gives you a full transcript with punctuation, speaker turns, and a summary.
