RecordX + Slack

How it works

The RecordX Chrome extension records tab audio while a Slack huddle or Slack Call is running in app.slack.com. There is no Slack app to install, no OAuth grant, and no bot on the channel - your browser does the capture. Audio, transcript, AI summary, and action items land in the same library as your Zoom, Meet, and Teams recordings, usually within a minute of the huddle ending. Sharing the recording back into a Slack channel is a manual copy-paste of the RecordX link.

Setup

  1. Register at recordx.io/register. The free tier gives you 60 minutes of recording per month, no card.
  2. Install the RecordX Chrome extension from the Web Store. Grant tab capture on first use.
  3. Open Slack in Chrome at app.slack.com - the extension only works in the browser client.
  4. Start or join a huddle, then click the RecordX extension icon to begin recording. The keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows/Linux, Command+Shift+R on macOS) toggles it too.
  5. End the huddle and open Recordings in the RecordX web app to review the transcript, summary, and action items. Copy the recording link and paste it back into the channel if you want to share.

Common gotchas

Alternatives and adjacent

Slack Clips is the built-in async-video option and lives inside the workspace, so viewership stays with Slack members. Otter and similar tools ship a Slack bot that can post summaries into channels - RecordX does not do that today; sharing is a manual paste of the recording link. Use RecordX when you want one searchable transcript library across huddles, Zoom, Meet, Teams, and phone calls, with the same summary engine on every recording.

Setup checklist

  1. Register at recordx.io.
  2. Install the RecordX Chrome extension.
  3. Open Slack in Chrome at app.slack.com.
  4. Start or join a huddle and click the extension icon to record.
  5. Open Recordings and copy the link into the channel to share.
