RecordX + Discord
How it works
Planned for a future release. RecordX does not join Discord voice channels today, and it does not read Discord messages of any kind. Email us at support@recordx.io and we'll notify you when Discord support ships.
Get started with RecordX today
- Register at recordx.io/register.html - the free tier gives you 60 minutes per month.
- Email us at support@recordx.io to be notified when Discord support ships.
- When Discord goes live, connect it from Settings - Integrations. Nothing to do there today.
- Meanwhile, record with the RecordX Chrome extension on Zoom, Meet, Teams, Webex and Slack huddles, or with the RecordX mobile app for on-device audio.
Planned use cases
- Record community AMAs and podcast sessions hosted in Discord voice channels.
- Get transcripts and summaries for each session in the RecordX library.
- Search across every Discord recording from a single query.
Planned scope
Scoped, not built. The intended feature is voice-channel recording: a RecordX bot joins a Discord voice channel a server owner has approved, and the audio streams into the same Recordings library as Zoom, Meet, and Teams calls. Speaker attribution would use Discord user IDs from the voice gateway so each participant lands on their own track in the transcript. Discord's text channels and DMs are out of scope.
What will sync (planned)
| Data | Discord - RecordX | RecordX - Discord |
|---|---|---|
| Voice channel audio | Planned (via Discord voice gateway) | Not planned |
| Transcript | Planned - generated in RecordX | Not planned |
| AI summary | Planned - generated in RecordX | Not planned |
| Action items | Planned - generated in RecordX | Not planned |
| Channel name and server ID | Planned - read-only via Discord OAuth | Not planned |
| Speaker attribution | Planned - keyed on Discord user ID | Not planned |
| Text messages | Not planned | Not planned |
Permissions (planned)
-
The planned Discord OAuth app would request the
identifyandguildsscopes at a minimum, plus the bot permissions needed to join a voice channel (Connect, Speak, Use Voice Activity). Nothing is granted today - no OAuth app is live. - The Chrome extension does not cover Discord voice. Discord's browser client does not expose voice audio through a captureable HTML media element in a reliable form, so tab capture is not the path we plan to use.
- Only server owners and admins will be able to add the RecordX bot to a server. Members without admin rights will need someone with the Manage Server permission to install it.
Pricing and limits (planned)
- When live, Discord voice minutes will draw from the same monthly balance as Zoom, Meet, and Teams. The free tier will start at 60 minutes per month.
- Paid plans and pay-as-you-go top-ups will apply. See pricing.
- Discord itself does not charge extra for bot participants on voice channels.
Common gotchas (early)
- Users hop between voice channels freely on Discord. Per-user speaker attribution needs the voice gateway data, not just an audio mix - which is why the extension can't cover this cleanly.
- The RecordX bot will need Connect and Speak permissions on each voice channel it records. Server owners will manage that in the channel's role settings.
- Recording consent laws still apply. Some jurisdictions require every participant's consent; some (like Israel) are one-party-consent. Announce the recording in the channel or in a pinned message.
- Stage channels and screen-share audio have different capture paths than plain voice channels; expect plain voice channels first, stage and screen-share to follow if there is demand.
Alternatives while waiting
Craig is the widely used Discord recording bot for multi-track audio - it produces one WAV file per speaker, which is exactly the shape a good transcription pipeline wants. Craig plus any transcription service (Whisper, AssemblyAI, or RecordX file upload) is the standard workaround today. RecordX currently covers Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex, Slack huddles, and phone calls - use those channels where you can, and email us when you want a heads-up on Discord.
