RecordX + Webex
How it works
Two capture paths cover Webex. The RecordX Chrome extension records the tab audio while you're in a Webex meeting - nothing joins the participant list, and Webex itself never sees a recorder. If you'd rather not attend, or the meeting runs on the Webex desktop app, calendar auto-join dispatches a Recall.ai bot named "RecordX Notetaker" to the Webex URL and streams audio into the same library. Audio, transcript, summary, and action items land under Recordings within a minute of the call ending.
Setup
- Sign up at recordx.io/register - the free tier gives you 60 minutes per month, no card.
- Install the RecordX Chrome extension from the Web Store. Grant tab capture when the browser prompts on first use.
-
Under Settings - Calendars, connect Google Calendar (OAuth scope
calendar.readonly) or Microsoft 365 (Calendars.Read). Webex events with a valid join URL show up in the upcoming list. - Turn on auto-join for the events you want covered without your presence, or leave it off and record manually from the extension.
- Join a Webex meeting in Chrome ("Join from Browser") - the extension icon shows a red dot when capture starts. Click to stop, or let the meeting end drop the recording naturally.
- Open RecordX and check Recordings for the transcript, summary, and action items.
Use cases
- Capture every Webex meeting in one searchable library.
- Get an AI summary and action items after each meeting.
- Search across meetings and calls from a single query.

Permissions
-
Chrome extension:
tabCapture,offscreen,storage,identity,alarms,notifications. Host permission on*.webex.com. -
Google Calendar OAuth:
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.readonly. Microsoft 365 OAuth:Calendars.Read. Both read-only - RecordX cannot create, edit, or delete calendar events. - No Webex Marketplace app is installed. RecordX does not request Webex API tokens or admin access to your Webex org.
Pricing and limits
- Free plan: 60 minutes per month, shared across extension and bot capture.
- Paid plans and pay-as-you-go top-ups raise the ceiling; see pricing.
- Webex free tier caps meetings at 40 minutes - the recording ends when Webex does. Paid Webex has no duration cap.
- Bot minutes count against your RecordX quota. Webex charges nothing for a bot participant.
Common gotchas
- The bot follows the Webex join URL from the calendar event, not the SIP URI. Events with only a dial-in number or SIP address can't be auto-joined.
-
Personal room URLs (like
company.webex.com/meet/name) and scheduled meeting URLs (company.webex.com/wbxmjs/joinservice/...) both work; hallway rooms and space chats do not - only real meetings. - If a host has "Guests must be admitted by host" on, the bot lands in the lobby. Nobody admits it in time, and the recording is empty. Turn off the lobby or invite the RecordX bot email as a guest.
- The extension is browser-only. Meetings on the Webex desktop or mobile app fall through to calendar auto-join or the RecordX mobile recorder.
- RecordX records audio only. If you need the video artifact, run Webex's own cloud recording alongside - the two don't conflict.
Alternatives and adjacent
Webex's built-in Assistant and cloud recording stay inside Cisco Cloud and are admin-controlled - use them when your org is Webex-only and IT wants a single source. RecordX is the cross-platform option: use it when the same team spans Webex, Zoom, Teams, Meet, and phone calls, and you want one searchable library with the same summary and action-item engine on every recording. Otter and Fireflies also bot into Webex - RecordX is the option that also gives you bot-free extension capture.

- Connect Google Calendar or Microsoft 365 under Settings - Calendars.
